From the golf courses of the Dominican Republic to exclusive tournaments, cigar lounges, and countless social gatherings, Bohemio’s Cigars stands out as a smoke that truly goes with everything and everyone. Their diverse vitola lineup offers various smoking durations, a range of strengths, and exemplifies social commitment.
Ariel Leonardo Arias Brito and Érick Rincón’s journey into the industry dates back to early 2020. During a regular get-together at a cigar lounge they frequented, the idea of creating their own brand emerged among friends. Only Ariel and Érick, however, moved forward with the project.
Inspired by the century-old history of Arturo Fuente Cigars and the challenges the brand overcame, from its origins in Cuba, through Miami, and finally to the Dominican Republic, Ariel found his resolve strengthened. “It made me realize that even though I wasn’t a migrant in a leading tobacco-producing country, I could also succeed.”
Beyond the product’s quality, the brand’s name has been a marketing coup. “Bohemio” (bohemian) is a word everyone identifies with. “And we were lucky enough to discover during the registration process that no one else had thought to use it for a cigar line.”
While the world of cigars wasn’t new to them, the industry itself was. Guided by the advice of another brand owner, the two friends headed to Tamboril, known as the Cigar Capital of the World, aiming to find the right manufacturer for their needs.
After visiting five or six prospects, they found Tabacalera FDC, Francisco “Chico” de la Cruz’s factory. Chico immediately understood the authenticity they sought for Bohemio’s Cigars.
Ariel recalls that from day one, Chico de la Cruz was receptive and motivated by their ideas. So, they began blending, comparing different tobacco leaf varieties, and trying out various vitolas. This process included designing the bands and boxes, all part of a continuous adventure until they had the product they offer today.

Expanding the Portfolio: Traditional Blends and Social Impact
Although the company was established in March 2020, their market debut didn’t come until 2022 with three traditional vitolas: a Torpedo with a Habano wrapper, a Box-Pressed with a Brazilian wrapper, and a Robusto with a Connecticut and Habano double wrapper. They also launched a Gran Toro, 6 inches long with a 60-ring gauge, featuring a San Andrés and Connecticut double wrapper. “Four cigars tailored to every type of smoker in terms of strength and smoking duration.”
In 2024, Alma Bohemia joined the lineup. This cigar has a noble story behind it, dedicated to supporting children on the autism spectrum. Its band is blue and features a matching blue heart as a closure, symbolizing the cause.
According to Ariel, after connecting with a local artist who was looking for a way to recognize and support the efforts of families with autistic children, they decided to create the cigar, its band, and its box. A portion of the proceeds, 50% of its income, is donated through a foundation to support these individuals.
Global Reach and Community Building
Built on recognized quality, the brand has a significant presence within the Dominican Republic but has also opened doors in the international market in countries like the United States, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Curaçao, and Bonaire, among others. Their next goal is to enter the Asian market.
The greatest satisfaction for these entrepreneurs lies in the people they’ve met along the way, cultivating friendships and relationships “puff by puff.” This camaraderie also led to the creation of the SDE Cigar Fest, a project by friends and emerging brands to foster Cigar Culture.
