With the participation of premium cigar brands from Honduras, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic, as well as rums, wines, and high-altitude coffee, the program for the seventh edition of Fuego y Barrica was presented this Monday in the Honduran capital. Under the theme “Between smoke and mining, deep roots of our land”, the event pays tribute to the origins of the tobacco and mining industries that forged the country’s identity.
Regarding the event, which will take place on Thursday, August 28th at the Hotel Honduras Maya, Mayra Urquía, Director of Royal Eventos and organizer of Fuego y Barrica, explained that this edition not only celebrates the excellence of Honduran tobacco but also pays homage to another historical richness, the mining legacy. This creates a meeting point between the elegance of smoke, the strength of spirits, and the character of the finest cigars. “Here fire unites gazes, the barrel holds secrets, and every moment is an experience to live and relive.”
A Sensory Journey
The objective is to strengthen the quality, image, and reputation of the cigars made in Honduras. Fuego y Barrica presents this through a sensory journey in four planned phases, where attendees will have the opportunity to explore the universe of premium cigars in depth, from their origins to the perfect pairing.
Cigars and mining are a tribute to what is extracted with work, transformed with art, and enjoyed with pride. Just as a vein is discovered underground, a good cigar reveals its richness quarter by quarter, accompanied by the warmth of an aged rum or the firmness of a fine whisky, the exquisiteness of a wine, and, of course, a high-altitude coffee.
The program consists of four phases:
- Origins: Guests can journey through time and smoke to the ancestral origins of each type of cigar.
- Selection: They will explore the interior of a cigar, its freshness, its legacy, and the selection that best suits their personality or the moment.
- Harmony: They will discover the secrets of preservation, cutting, and lighting, as well as tricks for an exquisite experience that will lead to the full enjoyment of the cigar’s intensity.
- Pairing: They will learn firsthand how to prepare the perfect marriage between a cigar and a spirit. “Different moments and different sensations.”
All of this will take place at the iconic Hotel Honduras Maya, which starting at 7:00 p.m. will be transformed into a majestic setting with an atmosphere of “gold, silver, and black,” colors that directly allude to the country’s mining history. The evening will be enlivened with artistic shows, great music, and the presence of prominent figures from the Honduran and international industries.
Beyond being an event of sophistication, Fuego y Barrica is an engine for the local economy. Mayra Urquía defines it as a “multiplier effect,” highlighting that behind every event there is a host of suppliers and work teams that receive an income. This initiative seeks to strengthen the meetings industry and Honduras’s image as a prestigious destination in the world of tobacco.
The support of renowned brands is fundamental to this objective, and for this reason, the director of Royal Eventos made a special mention of Banco de Occidente. “It was not easy,” she shared, “but when we put the project in context, they believed in us.” The bank, true to its corporate motto, “Supporting today’s small businesses to make tomorrow’s great ones,” reaffirms its commitment to the tobacco sector and the small entrepreneurs who today represent Honduras on an international level.
Fuego y Barrica is a tribute to the Honduran spirit: resilient, noble, and passionate, just like its people, and in particular, an entrepreneurial woman who with love and persistence has built this legacy.
The event will be attended by recognized personalities, including Leonel Rivas, Corporate Manager of Marketing and Commercial Strategy for Banco de Occidente; Andrés Ehrler, President of Canaturh; Pipe Castillo, President of Carlos Castillo Cigars in Co.; Freddy Reyes, Country Manager of Licores de Guatemala; José Mejía, Head of Corporate Image for Istmania; Hugo Flores, Marketing Manager for Excel/BMW; Aracely Alvarado, General Manager of Expoferias; Sandra Aceituno, Sales and Marketing Manager of the Hotel Honduras Maya, and César Salinas, General Director of Humo Latino.
