What began in 1895 as the venture of Julius Caeser (J.C) Newman in the United States -a young immigrant from the then Austro-Hungarian Empire- represents a family story spanning 130 years and four generations of people passionate about premium tobacco.
The general counsel of J.C. Newman Cigar Co., Drew Newman, great-grandson of the founder, says the company has passed from generation to generation, founded by Julius Newman and then led by Stanford Newman and later Eric and Bobby Newman, who together with himself and his cousins maintain the business with the vision that it lasts at least another century.
The line selected to celebrate this occasion is Diamond Crown, one of the first created by Julius Caeser, which Stanford and Carlito Fuente Jr. recreated in 1995 to commemorate the company’s first centenary. “It’s a brand with which we celebrate great moments and this anniversary could not be an exception”, says Drew during a video conference with Humo Latino.
J.C. Newman will reintroduce this brand worldwide starting in November, in ultra-luxurious packaging: an all-white humidor containing 130 Diamond Crown pieces manufactured by Tabacalera Arturo Fuente in a new and exclusive Belicoso No. 9 format, with Connecticut Shade wrapper and a special selection of Dominican tobaccos.
The Newman family takes responsibility for representing the oldest tobacco company in the United States and commits to “not resting on its laurels, “maintaining a process of continuous improvement”. The consumer can expect higher quality in each of our cigars, because in the end our nam is at stake and that is something very personal," adds Drew.
He details that the celebration of this 130th Anniversary is based on a world tour that will begin in Mexico, to visit and recognize the support and preference of their best clients and friends. The scheduled events, where the J.C. Newman team will present awards and offer exclusive promotions, will be replicated in other countries, “carrying a message of gratitude, as part of what makes us different”.
Drew says he has great love for Mexican cigar culture, which he considers sophisticated and steeped in tradition; a market where the Cuesta Rey and Perla del Mar lines are the greatest representatives of their brand.
