Founded in 1895 by J.C. Newman, the oldest family-owned cigar company in the United States joined the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the country’s Declaration of Independence.
Drew Newman, great-grandson of the founder and representative of J.C. Newman Cigar Co., highlighted that the brand preserves the last traditional American cigar factory. Its facilities in Tampa, Florida, are open to the public, featuring a museum and offering guided tours, rolling classes, and various events related to tobacco culture.
This year, the company is officially participating in the America 250 program, and all of their hand-rolled cigars bear the official celebration logo on their bands and boxes, including lines such as The American, Angel Cuesta, LeRoy Neiman, and Tampa Smokers.
He also recalled the lawsuit filed a decade ago against the FDA, which attempted to regulate premium cigars in the same manner as cigarettes. A recent ruling exempts the industry from those regulations, representing stability and continuity for both manufacturers and consumers.
Because of this, he invited aficionados to celebrate with the brand’s various lines, including Brick House, Perla del Mar, El Baton, Quorum, and the Diamond Crown series, crafted alongside the Fuente family.
