Normally, when we talk about the different origins of tobacco, we mention Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Honduras, and of course, Mexico… But, why not conquer the palates of smokers in the Mexican market with Brazilian tobacco?
A few days ago, we had the opportunity to visit the Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil in Mexico City, under the hospitality of His Excellency Mr. Nedilson Ricardo Jorge, host of an event where general information was shared regarding what the Brazilian tobacco industry represents.
Executives from Brazukas Tobacco Company participated. This is an emerging company in the Mexican market, but one with a long history in its home country, where they began by producing straw cigarettes –tobacco wrapped in corn husks. Over decades, they have evolved under a clear line: culture, craftsmanship, and origin.
Their journey toward internationalization began in 2020 by crafting cigars with the Mata Fina and Cubra tobacco varieties –the latter being endemic to Brazil– which represent new experiences for aficionados in the Mexican market.
Mata Fina tobacco, considered premium, possesses a medium strength, provides sweet notes, and is well-balanced; smooth, yet expressive. Their cigar made with Cubra tobacco features a earthier, woodier flavor with light spicy undertones, making it ideal for pairing with full-bodied spirits. Both are offered in Robusto and Petit Robusto vitolas.
Brazukas already has a presence in several countries across the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East, and has targeted Mexico as its next conquest.
Thus, accompanied by the rhythm of bossa nova and the freshness of caipirinhas, attendees had the opportunity to interact with a master roller who, in addition to giving live demonstrations, shared her knowledge. And of course, we had the opportunity to get a cigar blended with Mexican tobaccos and a Brazilian wrapper.
A group of friends from the Mexican tobacco industry, alongside diplomats, representatives from the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil, and other guests, lived the experience of tasting Brazukas –a tobacco full of history, dedication, and flavor.
We hope to find this brand in various tobacco shops across the country very soon.
