Between the afternoon of Wednesday, September 4, and the early hours of Thursday, September 5, a fire reduced to ashes a tobacco processing factory owned by Aganorsa Leaf . The facility is located south of the city of Estelí, Nicaragua.
According to information released by local media, the fire started in one of the tobacco drying ovens and then spread throughout the industrial building, affecting more than 300 workers present at the site.
After 10 hours of battling the blaze, members of the Benemérito Fire Department and the General Directorate of Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire. The incident has resulted in estimated losses of five million dollars and 500 job positions.
